In 2015, the Federal IT Forum of the Russian Oil and Gas Industry established itself as a unique platform for discussions and sharing experience in dealing with key issues and most acute problems of the information technologies in the Russian oil and gas industry, including innovative technologies and ways of implementing IT projects in partnership with business enterprises, developers and the government, taking into account the new political and economic conditions.

In 2016, the forum has expanded for two days to cover all the matters and topics which are relevant for the IT in the oil and gas sector. The forum's special guests, like a year ago, were the CIOs of the key Russian oil and gas companies.

The key topic of the forum in 2016 was the availability and continuity of IT services. To provide these features, the IT departments should effectively manage their costs and risks. Russian oil and gas companies have more potential risks than before: during the recent years, they have faced such problems as the falling ruble rate; economic (including the so-called sectoral) sanctions imposed by the Western countries; corporate budget and state target program sequester; the unfulfilled demands of oil and gas industry in import substitution; scarce statistics about the quality and fault tolerance of Russian IT solutions; the insufficient use of data as assets. All these issues were central to the two-day program of the 2nd Federal IT Forum of the Russian Oil and Gas Industry.
